Charlie Edwards’s Idomeneo gets four stars

A new production of Idomeneo, directed and designed by Charlie Edwards for Grange Park, has been given four stars by The Guardian: ‘It’s a slow burner of an evening, but the cast clearly understand the meaning of the text; dramatic intensity builds to a final act of tremendous power.’ http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/jun/04/idomeneo-review

Andrew Clark in the Financial Times approved Edwards’s decision to upgrade the role of the Voice of Nepture: ‘Usually a disembodied voice, the god of the sea here becomes a visible manipulator of the drama, his supernatural force represented by the way he smashes through the white-walled set at the end of Act Two and later retires into the ether, job and justice done’, a move also praised in the Telegraph Seven magazine.
