The Oss and Ox at Village Green Festival

Kate Flatt trained at the Royal Ballet School and assisted Leonide Massine whilst developing her career as a choreographer. She now works nationally and internationally in contemporary dance, ballet, film, opera, theatre and musicals including the original musical staging for Les Misérables at the RSC, in the West End and beyond. Kate teaches choreography at the Royal Ballet School. She is a Churchill Fellow, and holds a Rayne Foundation Choreographic Fellowship.

Recent credits include choreographing Moonfleet at the Salisbury Playhouse, Le nozze di Figaro for Garsington Opera, reviving her original choreography for Don Giovanni for Welsh National Opera, Turandot at The Royal Opera House, as well as rehearsing new cast members for Les Miserables at the Queens Theatre and working on collaborative projects of her own.

Theatre work includes Three Sisters, Dream Play, Albert Speer, and Power, for the National Theatre; ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, Dr Faustus, Skellig and The Skin of Our Teeth for the Young Vic, The Kreutzer Sonata for the Gate Theatre, Fiddler on the Roof for Sheffield and the West End, Roots for the Donmar Warehouse, and Hamlet for the Old Vic.

Her devised dance theatre works include Undivided Loves for Phoenix Dance Theatre; Slowburn, Soul Play, The Ballroom of Joys and Sorrows and The Oss and the Ox. Other Opera choreography includes Turandot for ROH; Gloriana and Peter Grimes for Opera North and ENO, as well as works at Glyndebourne, in Paris, Valencia and Washington.

Praise for Turnadot:

“Much of the credit for its longevity rests with the fabulously extravagant cartoonish designs of Sally Jacobs, and with the choreography of Kate Flatt, she of Les Misérables fame, who returns at every revival to ginger up the movement. This is as splendid as ever”
