Thavoris designs The Lady from the Sea

Yannis Thavoris has designed the sets and costumes for The Lady from the Sea for Scottish Opera, in a co-production with the Edinburgh International Festival, which opened in Edinburgh on 29 August, before transferring to Glasgow on 8 and 9 September. The production won a Herald Angel of the year.

This re-telling of Ibsen’s play uses video design, and is a collaboration between awardwinning author Zoë Strachan and internationally acclaimed film composer Craig Armstrong. According to the review in The Independent, ‘Designer Yannis Thavoris and video designer Finn Ross give the production a filmic intensity’, while The Scotsman noted how Thavoris’s  ‘uncluttered treatment of the quick-fire episodical structure is strikingly deepened by evocative watery projections.’
