Short biography
Annabel Arden's distinguished career encompasses opera, theatre and broadcasting as well as acting and devising new work.
On leaving Cambridge University she co-founded the Theatre de Complicité. As an actress, deviser and director Annabel Arden has been associated with many of its most celebrated and award-winning productions.
Theatre productions include THE ART OF WAR Sydney Theatre Company 2007 and INTERRUPTIONS University of California 2001; THE DUCHESS OF MALFI, CLIMBING KILIMANJARO Royal National Theatre Studio, INDIA SONG and THE WOMEN OF TROY (at the RNT) both co-directed with Annie Casteldine.
Opera includes MAGIC FLUTE, RETURN OF ULYSSES, LA TRAVIATA and CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN for Opera North; RAKE’S PROGRESS English National Opera; Beethoven's LEONORE for European theatre and concert hall tour; FAUST Luzern; Zemlinsky's DER ZWERG Florence and Turin; Aperghis’ LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD at the Almeida Theatre; GIANNI SCHICCHI and THE MISERLY KNIGHT Glyndebourne and TV and L’ELISIR D’AMORE Glyndebourne on Tour, Festival and Houston in 2009. She will direct a new production for Welsh National Opera in 2012.
Other projects have included a dance project with Candoco and BBC radio plays.
