Short biography
Yannis Thavoris graduated with a diploma in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1995. He then studied European Scenography at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, obtaining a Master of Arts in 1997. He was the overall winner of the 1997 Linbury Prize for Stage Design.
His designs include: PETRUSHKA (Scottish Ballet); THE RAKE’S PROGRESS (English National Opera); THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA (Aldeburgh Festival, ENO and BBC TV); LA CLEMENZA DI TITO (Copenhagen and ENO); MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Scottish Opera); Tchaikovsky's OPRICHNIK (Cagliari, Sardinia); KATYA KABANOVA, TOSCA, JENUFA and NABUCCO (Opera Holland Park); CANDIDE (Birmingham Opera); CARMEN and THE DAUGHTER OF THE REGIMENT (English Touring Opera); THE KING GOES FORTH TO FRANCE (Guildhall School); A NIGHT AT THE CHINESE OPERA (Royal Academy of Music).
