Short biography John Gunter trained at the Central School of Art and Design, and headed the Theatre Department there for 8 years before becoming Head of Design at the RNT. His designs for Glyndebourne include ALBERT HERRING, OTELLO, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, PORGY AND BESS, LA TRAVIATA, FALSTAFF, PETER GRIMES and LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. He has designed at many of the world's major opera houses including SIMON BOCCANEGRA (Los Toronto, Washington, ROH); SAMSON ET DALILA and FAUST (Brisbane); MEFISTOFELE (Buenos Aires); DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER (ROH) and productions for ENO, WNO, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Salzburg, La Scala, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Queensland, Sydney and Los Angeles. He has designed many West End productions including recently PORGY AND BESS. Numerous RNT Productions include LOVE'S LABOURS LOST, ANYTHING GOES, GUYS AND DOLLS, WILD HONEY, ABSOLUTE HELL, SKYLIGHT. He also designed for the Peter Hall Seasons at the Old Vic and the Piccadilly and for the Peter Hall Company at Theatre Royal Bath.
