Short biography
Kate Flatt studied at the Royal Ballet School and London Contemporary Dance and on a Churchill Scholarship in Germany and Eastern Europe. She has been awarded a 2007 Rayne Fellowship. She was the assistant of Léonide Massine for productions in New York, London and Australia.
Theatre includes PAINS OF YOUTH, ROSE TATTOO, DREAM PLAY, THREE SISTERS, ALBERT SPEER, ENDS OF THE EARTH (National Theatre); HAMLET (Old Vic); THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, DOCTOR FAUSTUS, ‘TIS PITY SHE’S A WHORE (Young Vic); THE GLASS MENAGERIE (Watford) and THE DOLL’S HOUSE (Birmingham Rep).
She created the musical staging of RSC's LES MISÉRABLES in Britain (also in the West End), Japan and France; for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in Sheffield and the West End 2007, and for the Danish musical TORDENSKJOLD. She co-devised THE DANCING ROOM for a UK tour and BBCTV. Currently in development is SONGS FROM A HOTEL BEDROOM a music theatre choreographic staging on the music of Kurt Weill, and a dance theatre work SOUL PLAY for dancer and actor.
She has choreographed four productions at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden including TURANDOT currently in repertoire and productions for the English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and Garsington. She has also worked at the Châtelet and the Bastille in Paris, and in Orange.
Film choreography includes THE AVENGERS, RESTORATION AND CHAPLIN.
