Short biography

Based in London, Jean Marc designs set and costumes for theatre, opera and dance.

He trained at the Motley Theatre Design Course in London and previously studied Art History and Archaeology in La Sorbonne, Paris.

JEWELS won the 2007 Lawrence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production and received a 2007 South Bank Show Award nomination.
ELECTRIC COUNTERPOINT won the 2008 Critics Circle Award.
DGV (Danse à Grande Vitesse) in 2006 and TRYST in 2002 both received Lawrence Olivier Awards nominations for Best New Dance Production.
DGV is part of the programme winning the 2006 South Bank Show Award.
ELSA CANASTA was nominated at the 2003 Lawrence Olivier Awards.
NOPALITOS is part of the programme winning the 2006 Critics Circle Award and was presented, with PASEILLO, at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
A NIGHT AT THE CHINESE OPERA for Scottish Opera received a 2008 TMA Theatre Award nomination.
Pennsylvania Ballet’s SWAN LAKE was presented at the 2005 Edinburgh International Festival.

Jean-Marc creates original designs for companies such as:
The Royal Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Scottish Opera, The Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Mariinsky Ballet (Kirov), San Francisco Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Rambert Dance Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Opéra National du Rhin Ballet and Royal Academy Opera,

Among others, he collaborates with directors David McVicar and Lee Blakeley, and choreographers Christopher Wheeldon, David Bintley, Javier de Frutos, Dominique Dumais, Kevin O’Day and Arthur Pita.

Since September 2008, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Dance Umbrella Ltd.

He has been asked to give talks about his work at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
