Charles Edwards was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and graduated from the Central School of Art and Design in London.
A well-established designer, he is now also known for both directing and designing productions, making his début as a director with COSI FAN TUTTE (Mid-Wales Opera) in 2001, followed by OEDIPUS REX for Opera North and ELEKTRA for the Royal Opera House in 2003 and 2008. He directed a song-cycle by John Woolrich THE SEA AND ITS SHORE for Almeida Opera Festival, MARIA DI ROHAN at Wexford , TURANDOT for De Reisopera , RIGOLETTO for Opera North and in 2012 IDOMENEO for Grange Park Opera.
