Brigitte Reiffenstuel was born in Munich and studied at the London College of Fashion and Central St Martins College of Art and Design. She won the 2015 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Costume (FALSTAFF, Canadian Opera Company) and the 2013 Oscar della Lirica award for achievement in costume design at the International Opera Awards.
In the UK she has designed extensively for the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne, many of these productions have gone on to tour the internationally including FALSTAFF (ROH, Canadian Opera, La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Dutch National Opera), PETER GRIMES (ENO, Oviedo, De Vlaamse Opera and Deutsche Oper, Berlin) and FAUST (ROH, Opera de Lille, Monte Carlo, Trieste, Valencia, Australia); GIULIO CESARE (Glyndebourne, Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera and Opera de Lille).
In Europe she has designed costumes for performances at Opernhaus Zürich, Théâtre du Châtelet, Deutsche Oper Berlin, la Scala Milano, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Komische Oper Berlin, Frankfurt Opera, Dusseldorf Opera and many more.
Recent work has included DER ROSENKAVALIER for ROH (and Metropolitan Opera in 2017), LA RONDINE (Oper Graz), LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR (Theater der Bundesstadt Bonn), KISS ME KATE (Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris), MADAMA BUTTERLY (Los Angeles Opera) and costumes for singer Kate Bush’s recent tour, BEFORE THE DAWN.
Upcoming productions include GLORIANA and LUCIA DI LAMMERMOORE for the Fundacion del Teatro Real, Madrid in 2018.
