Chuma Emembolu trained under the Head of Lighting at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he worked as Lighting Technician on productions including Tales of Ovid and Richard II. He went on to become Technical Director and Lighting Designer for Aequitas Theatre Company, before leaving to pursue a career in lighting design.
Since then, his work has been seen at many fringe theatres and festivals across the UK. His recent work includes lighting As You Like It for Controlled Chaos, Jumping The Shark, Avalon, An Honourable Man, The Sword of Alex, Last One Here and Gift of the Gab (also Sound Design) at the White Bear Theatre, Trying to be Her at the Etcetera Theatre, Richard II, Monkey Paw and Platform for the Bread & Roses Theatre, In The Wake Of for The Lion and Unicorn, Metamorphosis and Romeo and Juliet for the Waterloo East Theatre, and Dare to Do for Ka Zimba Theatre at The Space, among many others.
He is an Associate Artist to Bread and Roses Theatre where he has lit many productions including Fleeced for Matipo Theatre, Blue Tights, Red Knickers and an ‘S’ On Her Vest for Thematic Theatre, No Exit for Rose Theatre Co and The Buzz for the Bread and Roses in house company, among others.
Chuma is also a Sound and Projection designer.
Upcoming lighting designs include Gravel Heart and The Fear at The Bunker Theatre with Mountview, King Charles III for Wild Duck Theatre, and Conversations with Ed at The Bread and Roses Theatre, among others.
